I have invited Jason to make a number of short films which communicate plans for large scale public sculpture projects in the UK and USA. We have a really good working approach where I give him a short description of what might be needed but he then brings a creative approach to the content and a really engaging manner with clients and interviewees.
I have asked Jason to interview artists in their studios for a film in museum exhibition and also to create a film about transporting a huge sculpture across Edinburgh -in both instances his films were clearly structured, visually appealing and really ‘ told the story’ in a way that the artists were delighted with and that the audiences engaged with.

The first time I encountered Jason was actually through his work. It was an exhibition at Woodhorn Museum and there was black and white film on loop about a local photographer. It was something about the way the film was shot and how he had captured the photographer’s life and what people had to say about him in such an honest, raw and meaningful way, that really spoke to me. In a wonderful serendipity, later that same week a local resident in Northumberland, insisted I needed Jason on board the Northumberland Experiences project we were delivering and he was right.
Jason was commissioned to produce a documentary for the Northumberland Experiences project, which would train local people as community researchers to find out what it was like to live and work in the County. Jason got the brief from day one, he was so responsive to the project needs, giving generously of his time and he definitely went above and beyond our expectations. The film he produced wowed all the stakeholders and was received with applause. He managed to capture the essence of the project from start to finish giving us a hugely valuable asset to really showcase what the pilot was about, something which no evaluation report could have ever done. His gentle and open questions allowed people to respond genuinely, and this is what makes his filming so special. After a while people forget he is there, capturing moments as they unfold. Filming is just one of Jason’s many talents, he is also photographer, digital and audio producer, musician and generally a wonderful human being.
Working with Jason has been a wonderful experience from start to finish and I would wholeheartedly recommend him, you won’t regret it and as in our case his work was an invaluable asset for the project
